I'm very concerned because of an announcement made by a consumer protection group in South Africa. I buy Woolworths organic milk, yoghurt and cheese because of the fact that Woolworths has claimed to treat their dairy cows much better than their competitors do, claiming that they stand out because of their general treatment of the animals as well as the fact that the animals are allowed space to roam or are pasture-fed.
The group has said it has contacted Woolworths regarding animal treatment and with concerns over how "free-range" the dairy cows are, and that Woolworths then backtracked on many of its claims (by changing its labels), eventually stopping communication with the group (after promising to address the shortcomings in its dairy farming practices).
Please let me know what your practices are at present, both for for your organic and Ayrshire cows. I'd like to know if they have space to roam, and how much, whether they can graze in pastures, what kind of feed they are given (organic, grain, GMO etc.) and whether the allegations regarding inhumane de-horning practices are true or not.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Jennifer
